Students celebrate German heritage for Oktoberfest

As part of the Oktoberfest celebrations, students from La Crosse are learning about the area’s German heritage.

Grade schoolers from the La Crosse School District learned about German culture, sport, food and language at the northside Festgrounds Thursday.

Dozens of upper-level German language students from Logan High School gave presentations at eleven different stations to help celebrate the culture.

“There’s a great heritage in this area and we have a great Oktoberfest event and our students are really interested in learning about the culture and the language,” said Rita Murphy, German Teacher at Logan High School.

Nineteen students from the La Crosse School District have traveled to Friedberg, La Crosse’ s sister city in Germany, in the past year.
