Student organizes blood drive for senior project
WEST SALEM, Wis. (WKBT) — An area high school student is using her senior project to address a big need in the community.
West Salem High School senior Abby Oldenburg organized a blood drive today at the school’s library, with all donations going to the Blood Center of Wisconsin.
Blood donations are typically low this time of year because of winter weather and bad driving conditions.
Oldenburg says she wants to be a nurse in the future, and wanted to organize an event to help others.
“I just hope to give back to the community a little bit and then just seeing this as a nurse, helping people and saving lives, it’s good to see,” said Oldenburg.
Oldenburg’s goal was to get 28 donations by the end of the school day. She ended up surpassing that goal in just a few hours.
