Student fundraising for new Vietnam War memorial
LA CROSSE, Wis, (WKBT) — An area high school student is fundraising to build a new memorial for Vietnam War veterans.
Holmen High School student Jordan Briskey is trying to raise $400,000 for the project.
Supporters were invited to enjoy a silent auction, live music and raffle at the Brickhouse as a fundraiser for the project.
Briskey wants the memorial to recognize the contributions of Wisconsin veterans during the war.
“After the war, many Vietnam Veterans that [talked] to me, came home homeless, mistreated, spitted on and that’s not right. Because they sacrificed their life to go over there and protect us,” Briskey said.
The hope is to to have the memorial built at La Crosse’s Veterans Freedom Park on Clinton Street in 2020.
