Student athletes compete in local wrestling tournament
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) The UW-La Crosse wrestling team hosted the Badgerland Nationals Youth Wrestling Tournament at the La Crosse Center to raise money for the UWL wrestling program.
650 wrestlers from kindergarten through 8th grade competed while UWL wrestlers kept score of the matches.
Organizers say the money they raise will go a long way.
“They’re using this as a fundraiser mechanism for their own program, so that they can improve the equipment in the wrestling room, to taking trips, to wrestle in different tournaments. All kinds of different things,” said Lance Klinkhammer, Associate Director of the Wisconsin Sports Services.
Klinkhammer says the Badgerland Nationals is one of four tournaments as part of the annual Midwest Wrestling Tour.
