Stray Souls Animal Rescue gives Texas dogs a second chance

Stray Souls Animal Rescue returned from a three day trip down south to Texas to retrieve 39 stray dogs to be fostered in our area.

Ginny Dankmeyer, a dog rescuer, said Texas has problems with overpopulation and shelters there reach out for help to relocate dogs who might be put down.

“A lot of people don’t spay and neuter their dogs down there, so you’re constantly getting these puppies thrown on the side of the road. Humane Societies go in picking them up. We get pictures of all these dogs that they can only hold for so long, saying, ‘Can you come get them?’ . . . Before we even get there we have confirmed fosters here waiting for them when we get back,” said Dankmeyer.

Dankmeyer said over 5 million dogs are put down each year, which is why it’s so important that they do their part to find these dogs loving foster homes.

Samantha Thompson, a dog foster parent, said it’s tough when they get adopted into forever homes but worth it.

“It takes a little piece of your heart . . . but it’s very rewarding knowing that they’re going from where they had no one, to then had you to, then they’ll have someone forever who will love them and care for them like you know that they should be cared for,” said Thompson.
