Steppin Out in Pink 2020 Advocate gives message of positivity and support
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The virtual Steppin’ Out in Pink is already underway. Although the event looks different this year, thousands of people are still walking to raise money and awareness in the fight against Breast Cancer.
“I think that one thing that takes a lot of people by surprise is when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I had a moment of shock and denial, but I never really felt angry about it,” said Emily Hansen.
Emily Hansen is a fighter.
“All of my care providers from the start, refereed to me as a survivor,” said Hansen. “That really taught me how to live life better, to take one day at a time.”
And this year, she is using her positive energy to help others, as the 2020 Steppin’ Out in Pink Advocate.
Even before she was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, she was supporting others going through difficult times.
“I actually started my Facebook blog page, Fitness and Faith Journey,” said Hansen.
She started the page because her father had fallen ill.
“I thought that by sharing my hard days as well as my good days, that it might help somebody else going through similar situations,” said Hansen.
The response was positive.
“I found that people really appreciate seeing the real side of life,” said Hansen.
She received messages saying things like…
“I inspired them or encouraged them on the hard days and really that’s my total goal of being an advocate for Steppin’ Out in Pink,” said Hansen.
She took on the role as the 2020 Advocate because she wants to show others the real side of her life.
“Cancer taught me so much about looking at life differently. and I think teaching those lessons to my kids has been huge in what I’ve gained from my cancer journey. And I hope that other people who hear my story know that they’re not alone and that they’re going to battle this and they’re a survivor,” said Hansen.
You can find more of Emily’s journey on her Facebook page, Fitness and Faith journey. As for the Steppin’ Out in Pink virtual event, participants started tracking their miles on Tuesday, and will wrap up next Saturday, September 12.
