St. Scholastica joins MIAC
MIAC football will transition to 10-team, 2-division format
Saint Mary’s will have a new conference foe starting in 2021.
The College of St. Scholastica, based in Duluth, is the newest member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and will begin MIAC regular season play in the 2021-22 academic year, the conference announced Wednesday.
With St. Thomas gone, St. Scholastica joining and Macalester returning its football program to the conference, the MIAC will now have a new format: a 10-team, two-division model that will include eight conference games and a final week of the regular season that will serve as a playoff game. Each team will play the team in the opposing division who is in the same place in the standings (first place in Division A would play first place in Division B, and so on).
St. Scholastica will be the 13th member of the conference.
