‘Spudmobile’ makes stop at La Crosse schools

Interactive RV teaches kids about nutrition

You’ve probably heard about the Weinermobile, but what about the Spudmobile?

The Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association brought their Spudmobile to Lincoln Middle School in La Crosse.

The renovated R-V includes a variety of interactive games and activities that teach kids about nutrition and where their food comes from.

Potato grower Mark Lieberherr says the activities help plant the seeds of knowledge about the process of bringing potatoes from the field to the fork.

“Kids are hands-on, especially at this age. And when they see something that they can touch and feel and can realize or visualize, I just think they’ll learn and get more out of it than just reading something out of a book,” said Lieberherr.

As part of the visit, kids at Lincoln also got to have fresh-grown potatoes as part of their salad bar at lunch today.

More than 200 pounds of potatoes were donated to the school for the salad bar.
