Winona Legion baseball is poised for another run at state this year.
The team is coming off a gritty road win over Holmen where they had a 5-0 almost slip away before shutting the door.
The team says it's been forged by close games like that one, and not just in Legion. The upperclassmen have learned to close games out in multiple sports year round, and they say they are ready for more big moments this summer.
"This seems to be a group that's had some success at the high school level, at the VFW level, and the Legion level," head coach Gary Hoeppner said. "I think they're used to winning and that carries over, you know."
"If you're put in tough positions in a game, all of these guys have been there," infielder Brody Bittle said. "Whether it's a grounder in the ninth, or a three-pointer at the end of the game, it's gonna happen. The coaches are going to put you in a position to do something good for your team."
