West Salem, Wis. - West Salem was one game away from winning the 2016 MVC football championship, finishing in a three-way tie for second place last season.
The Panthers this season bring back a nice one-two punch on offense. Quarterback Ryan Beirne and running back Gabe Lamon both earned All-MVC honors as juniors last year.
Not only does the duo return well over half of the team's yardage production, they'll also bring back valuable experience.
"After last year going through playing the entire season minus the last game, I think I'll have an impact on the team," said Beirne. "Going to step up and be a leader. Show the boys what we've got to do and that we've got to work hard for everything."
"You know it's nice to have some skill guys come back, we are young on both the offensive and defensive lines," said head coach Justin Jehn. "Our linebacking corp is back, we return a lot of skill guys on offense. And certainly having Ryan back in that role really helps. Any kind of leadership you can get from those upperclassmen is certainly something that we really value."
