West Salem baseball "under the radar" this season

WEST SALEM, WI - The West Salem baseball team is defending their Division 2 state championship this season, but the team hasn't been able to to get on the field much.

Weather has held the Panthers to just one game this spring.  The reigning D2 champs have a lot of new faces, having to replace 7 starters and 13 seniors off last year's title team.

Preseason polls have West Salem ranked 11th in Division 2 according to Wisconsin Baseball Yearbook, which is fine with the Panthers because they like being under the radar.

"Every year brings a dynamic to a team and I actually prefer to be overlooked a little bit.  I think we will go out there and hopefully surprise some teams and give it our best effort and whatever happens, happens," Senior Ryan Berger said.

"We have a target on our back after last year and we are all expecting that.  It's good that we have that experience to come with it last year.  We had targets on our backs.  I think we are ready for it," Senior Hunter Wakefield said.
