LA CROSSE, WI - The UW-La Crosse football team's season official comes to an end.
The NCAA Division III playoff bracket was announced on Sunday, the Eagles were not one of the 32 teams in this year's field.
However, year two under head coach Mike Schmidt was still a success. 8 regular season wins is the highest total since 2006.
After the field was set, Schmidt said it was a tough break, but he is proud of his team.
"This was the most fun season I've ever had. As a coach, it's been the most rewarding experience I've had. The guys just bought in and did what we asked them to do. There is a lot of guys that don't have a lot of talent and became great players this season for us and one of the top teams in the country. We had to take this first step. Now we can see where this leads this group here in the future," Schmidt said.
"It's disappointing but we have to celebrate what we did this year. 8-2, getting this program back to where it belongs. So proud of this group and La Crosse football is back." Senior defensive back Ryan Weber said.
