Winona State is preparing to host it's first playoff football game since 2004. They host Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday at one-o-clock.

Some nice individual recognition usually comes with team success.

Head coach Tom Sawyer for the fifth time wins NSIC Coach of the Year honors. This ten win season coming in a year that the Warriors were picked to only finish sixth in conference.

"You have success and that success comes from the people around you. From the players, the community, everything has fallen into place for us. So I get my name on it but it's a full team award."

Also senior defensive back Andrew Spencer wins NSIC Defensive Player of the Year. Spencer fifth in all of NCAA II with seven interceptions this season.

"It means a lot actually. Got really emotional last night when Coach Sawyer called me. I've come a long way, last year I was only an honorable mention guy and a lot of guys knew that it kind of hurt me. So I took it to the offseason. I really worked hard and to see it pay off means a lot to me."
