This coming Monday, Feb. 14, Arcadia and Luther boys basketball are sponsoring a week-long fundraiser to support those affected by cancer.
The cooperative fundraiser is something Luther boys coach Brad Schaper and Arcadia coach Ryan Sonnentag have been planning since last summer, as both have had family members battle cancer.
When Schaper told Sonnentag earlier this season about Luther freshman David Chase, who’s battling a large brain tumor, the two centered on Chase’s family for the fundraising efforts.
The efforts will come to a head the night of Feb. 18 when Luther boys play at Arcadia.
“Starting on Monday the 14th, we’ll be doing a coin war between Luther and ourselves,” Sonnentag said. “All that money is getting pooled. Whatever Luther raises is going toward David, whatever we raise is going toward the American Cancer Society. And then Friday night we’ll be selling Coulee vs. Cancer t-shirts, and all of that money, as well as a miracle minute we’re putting on that night, is going to go toward David’s family.”
Sonnentag added that both schools are selling raffle tickets for some Brewers tickets, with the raffle drawing scheduled for Feb. 28.
