Bangor returns to state despite roster, head coach changes

3/13/19 - Bangor Boys Basketball

BANGOR, Wis. - Jacob Pederson took over a Bangor boys basketball program coming off a 2018 WIAA Division five state championship.

Even with a new head coach and a majority of last year's team moving on after graduation the bulls-eye was still on their back this season. With many new faces the Cardinals responded with a record of 25-1 and have advanced to the state tournament once again.

"We lost ten seniors, three guys who had scored 1,000 points in their careers here at Bangor and started a lot of years here on the varsity program. These guys have been waiting for their opportunity to get here as well," said Pederson. "Knowing that we've had success at the JV level, which doesn't always translate to the varsity, but I knew that we were going to have a strong program still going forward."

Bangor will face Columbus Catholic at approximately 10:45 a.m. at the Kohl Center in the WIAA Division five state semifinal game.
