2018 football preview: Westby Norsemen

WESTBY, WI - After a 6-5 record in 2017, the Westby football team is looking challenge for the Coulee Conference crown this fall.  Westby went 4-1 in league play last season, the lone loss coming to eventual champ G-E-T.

Westby has advanced to the playoffs 7 straight seasons.  They bring back an experienced group with 22 seniors.

Senior running back Ryan Daines will be the player to watch for the Norsemen.  Daines rushed for 1,045 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior, earning first team All-Coulee honors.

"I have gotten a lot bigger.  I put on some weight since last year.  Then I was in track this spring, so I got faster.  So I am bigger and faster than I was last year.  I think that will be a big part in it.  I will be able to make more plays and hopefully break away from guys and get touchdowns," Daines said.

"If I am struggling with accuracy or we are not getting enough time to throw if they are blitzing 6 guys, it's awesome you can just give it to Ryan.   He is going to get 2, 3, 4, 5 yards and then he will bust one for 60 and a touchdown.  It's awesome to have somebody that consistent that's always going forward, always getting yards," senior quarterback Alex Gluch said.
