Sports Spotlight 5-29: Blair-Taylor’s Rafael DaCosta

Blair-Taylor senior Rafael DaCosta is the latest spring athlete in our Sports Spotlight.

Throughout high school Rafael has competed in football, cross country and track & field. In the past two years he competed at state track in the 800 meter run.

In football, Rafael was a two-time Second Team All-Conference kicker for the Wildcats, and last fall he was named First Team All-Conference and WFCA Academic All-State.

Rafael is also a competitive swimmer, but since Blair-Taylor doesn’t have a swim team, he made the commitment to join a club team in Eau Claire. So during his club swim season, he drove two hours round trip, five days a week to join club practices. His hard work in the pool paid off. He’s competed at the YMCA state championships and won the state title in the 200 freestyle last year. He’s also qualified the last two years for the YMCA national swimming championships in North Carolina.

Rafael is an Eagle Scout who’s also his school’s National Honor Society Chapter President, was crowned prom king his junior year, and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors.

He’ll continue his swimming career with the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire and will be studying Business on the Pre-Med track.
