Sports Spotlight 5-25: Sparta baseball seniors

In our latest Sports Spotlight, we take a look at the five seniors from Sparta baseball.

They are shortstop and pitcher Adam McKee, first baseman Ethan Krueger, third baseman Tanner Oswald, second baseman and outfielder Isaac Stuessel, and catcher Austin Stuessel. This group of seniors helped breathe life back into the Sparta Baseball Program. Their freshman year, the program had a record of 5-20; sophomore year the Spartans went 5-14. But last spring, with this group taking on bigger roles, the program went 14-8 and reached the regional final against Tomah. That’s a nine-win improvement that brought plenty of excitement to the Sparta baseball community.

All five of them were also part of a football program that’s won more games each of the past few seasons. All five were two-year starters for the football team. Their first year as starters in 2018, the Spartans reached Level 3 of he playoffs, and this last season, the team went 7-3. Austin led the team with 89 total tackles, Isaac had six sacks and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Tanner and Ethan were part of an effective offensive line that had plenty of success in the running game, and defensively Ethan racked up 9 tackles for loss and two sacks. He’ll be continuing his football career at UWL. Adam as a defensive back came up two two interceptions and a forced fumble last season.

These seniors faced adversity on the field, and they leave their programs, especially baseball, in better shape than when they first entered.
