Sparta parents rally to recall school district board members over masks
Parents gather to discuss recall of two board members
SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) – Parents in the Sparta School District are starting an effort to recall two school board members over votes on the mask mandate.
The group gathered in a park Wednesday night to continue collecting signatures to recall Nancy Sikorski and Eric Soldberg.
Sikorski and Solberg, along with two other board members, voted to reinstate the district’s mask mandate.
Parents say the two are not doing their jobs because they’re not listening to parents who believe masks should be optional.
“What the school board is doing [is] not listening to the parents, but rather listening to the Monroe County Health Department that isn’t elected to make decisions for the school-related matters and we just want to have the power put back to the school board … they’ll make policies of what the parents are asking,” says a parent who spoke at the rally.
Parents at this recall drive say they want the school board to make decisions based on what parents want.
In addition to calling for a recall election, many of these parents plan to attend the next school board meeting to continue fighting for an optional mask policy.
Sparta School District board meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.
