Sparta native delivers donations for Afghans at Fort McCoy

Derek Montgomery made the delivery from Duluth

SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) – A Sparta High School graduate is answering the call to help Afghans at Fort McCoy.

Derek Montgomery was in Monroe County Tuesday to deliver $5,000, plus donations of clothing and hand sanitizer to the National Guard Armory.

He collected the donations in Duluth, where he now lives, as a way to help.

“People are inherently good. They want to help. And I think this is proof right here. This is only a couple days worth of me seeking help from others,” said Sparta native Derek Montgomery.

Montgomery had so many donations, he needed to rent a large van to make the delivery.
