Sparta man committed suicide after stand-off with police
SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — A Sparta man shot himself after a stand off with Sparta police Monday afternoon.
The man refused to comply with the officer and produced a firearm after the officer went to serve a warrant to the 65 year old male.
The officer was able to safely exit the home, however the subject made threats toward officers and several firearms were drawn throughout the incident.
A perimeter was established around the home and several surrounding homes were evacuated for the safety of the residents.
The Monroe County Tactical Team was called-out to assist at the scene and numerous efforts were made by negotiators to find a peaceful resolution, but none were successful.
The Tactical Team assisted using the BearCat and robot and released pepper spray into the home.
The subject was found dead by a self-inflicted gunshot wound after police entered the home.
The name of the subject is not being released at this time.
