Sparta man arrested for OWI after crash with injuries in Tomah
TOMAH, Wis. (WKBT)– Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in a two-vehicle crash in Tomah Friday afternoon. Michael Betts, 54, of Sparta, was taken into custody for causing injury/operating while under the influence.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report of the incident on State Highway 131 near the intersection of Gopher Avenue shortly after 3:30 p.m.
An investigation of the crash found Betts was traveling northbound on State Highway 131 when his vehicle crossed the centerline and entered the southbound lane. He then hit a vehicle driven by Crystal Gilbertson, 29, of Norwalk, who was traveling southbound.
Gilberton’s vehicle went off the roadway and into the ditch, where it overturned onto its side. She had to be extricated from the vehicle before being transported by ambulance to a local hospital for injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The Tomah Police Department, Oakdale Fire Department, Tomah Area Ambulance Service and Tomah Fire Department Rescue Techs assisted with the incident.
