Sparta holds 16th annual cancer support walk and rally
SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — Hundreds of people in Sparta are doing their part to fight cancer.
The ‘Sparta Area Cancer Support’ organization held its 16th annual walk and rally Friday night.
Close to a thousand people gathered at the track at Sparta Memorial Field to raise money for cancer research and support those fighting the disease.
The majority of the money raised every year goes to people in the Sparta area who need help covering a variety of expenses.
“We provide them with whatever they need to get by. So that could be paying medical bills, helping with their rent, providing gas cards, grocery cards, to support them financially,” said board member Julie Anderson.
The festivities continued until midnight. Last year’s walk raised more than $115,000.
