Sparta garage, truck damaged in fire

SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) — A garage and a pickup truck were damaged early Sunday in a fire in the town of Sparta.

The Sparta Area Fire District responded at 12:42 a.m. Sunday to a garage fire on Genet Road.

When Chief Mike Arnold arrived, he noted that Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies had used a fire extinguisher to partially extinguish the fire. The garage was attached to the house and crews had to ventilate the home.

The home sustained moderate smoke damage.

Crews were on the scene for more than two hours. Arnold said the cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical power supply on a work bench in the garage.

Arnold said the department was assisted by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office,Sparta Area Ambulance Service and the Monroe County 911 center.
