Sparta Area Fire District to hold first-ever block party fundraiser

Hoping to raise thousands of dollars to update communication systems

SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT)– Sparta Area Fire Department is getting a head start on educating the community while having a little fun ahead of Fire Prevention Week.

The department is hosting its first-ever block party.

The fundraiser will have live music, a beanbag tournament and demonstrations with the department’s new fire extinguisher prop. Kids will get to meet firefighters and get an up-close look at the trucks.

The department is hoping to raise thousands of dollars to update their communication systems.

“Some of our radios are pushing 15 to 18 years old, some of them are susceptible to water, they’re not waterproof and so unfortunately when we go out on calls and if they get just a little bit of water in them, or moisture, they don’t operate correctly,” said Chief Mike Arnold of the Sparta Area Fire District.

The party begins with a department open house at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Music from local country band Blue Collar 40 begins at 6 p.m.
