Some La Crosse homeowners allowed to continue pumping water into street

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- Three homeowners on the north side of La Crosse will continue to be able to pump water into the street and the public right of way.

The board of public works granted permission at its latest meeting.

Problems with high river levels and flooding leftover from last summer continue to leave some homeowners with water in their basements.

Typically, the Public Works Department gets extension requests in the spring and early summer for the use of the pumps, but these past six months, they’ve been granting extension after extension.

Water pumped into the street, especially during the Winter months, can freeze and cause a hazard.

Public works is moving forward with a long term solution to prevent this situation in the future which includes giving homeowners access to underground drainage into the storm sewer.
