Snow plow accident leaves Viroqua man seriously injured
COON, Wis. (WKBT) — Vernon County Sheriff’s Department reports a two vehicle injury accident that occurred on Tuesday at approximately 4:00 P.M.
The accident occurred on US Highway 14 near Town Hall Ln between Westby and Coon Valley, in the Town of Coon.
Dennis J. Purvis, age 44, of rural Viroqua was traveling west on Highway 14 operating a plow truck for the Township of Coon. Brian G. Blatz, age 55, also of rural Viroqua was traveling east on Highway 14 when he began to lose control.
Purvis stated Blatz vehicle began fishtailing and crossed the centerline. Purvis could not avoid the SUV and the two vehicles collided in the westbound lane coming to rest just off of the shoulder, with the plow embedded into the SUV.
Both operators were wearing their seatbelts and airbags were deployed in Blatz vehicle. The Coon Valley Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate Blatz from the drivers seat. Purvis was not injured in the crash and Blatz was transported to Gundersen Health System in Lacrosse with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
