Skilled Trades Day helps students to learn about career options

Students in La Crosse Friday learned about future career options.

The ‘Skilled Trades Day’ gives students the chance to learn about jobs in construction.

The hands-on event showcased trades like masonry, metal framing and carpentry.

With shortages of skilled workers, leaders in the construction industry say an event like this is important to showcase what jobs are available.

“You know, I hope that they maybe find a career choice for them, or a passion for something they really want to do. Some of these students know what they want to do and many of them do not,” said Nick Kalini, Central High School’s Technology Education teacher.

The need for workers doesn’t appear to be going away anytime soon, as 74 percent of construction companies in Wisconsin say they plan to increase staff.
