Single-lane traffic to return to Highway 16
Project to expand to four lanes to wrap up in November
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — Travel between Onalaska and West Salem is about to get easier.
Traffic on a previously closed stretch of Highway 16 will be re-opened on Thursday. The stretch of highway between Moos Road and West Salem has been closed for months as part of an extensive construction project.
The road is being expanded to four lanes with turn lanes being added for intersections.
But for the time being, traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction, starting mid-day Thursday and lasting until the project is done.
Project engineer Dale Merten says drivers need to be cautious when driving on the new road.
“It’s still under construction, even though there’s access, it’s one lane in each direction,” said Merten. “Be careful, be attentive, just watch for the workers and equipment and things change pretty frequently out here.”
The entire project is expected to wrap up in November.
