Shipping deadlines approaching for US Postal Service

If you are giving presents from a distance this holiday season, there are some deadlines you need to be aware of to keep the happy in your holidays.

The U.S. Postal Service says their first shipping deadline is coming soon.

Packages being sent to military post offices are due by December 11th.

The lone exception is mail being sent to Iraq and Afghanistan, which is due by December 4th.

La Crosse’s postmaster says the busy time of year is creating longer delivery times than usual.

“So if you send it on a Monday, ideally it’s going to be there Thursday or Friday. With the volumes we are facing right now, they ask you to add two additional days,” said Wade Adams, Postmaster, La Crosse Post Office.

For mail staying in the United States, you have a little longer.

The deadline for first class mail is December 20th.
