Sharon Joye Peters
April 16, 1939 - January 09, 2022
Sharon Joye Peters, 82, of Holmen, Wis., passed away peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father at home on Jan. 9, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born at Saint Ann’s Hospital in La Cross on April 16, 1939, the daughter of Joye Wilma Severson and Elmer Ellis Burand.
Sharon grew up with her two siblings, Keith and Denis, in La Crescent, Minn., Ottumwa, Iowa, and Waukegan, Ill. She graduated from Waukegan High School and attended Northern Illinois University, DeKalb.
She was married to Edward Arroyo from 1958 to 1972, and they had five children. She married Spencer “Pete” Peters on Dec. 23, 1993.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Pete, her six children, Tamara (Mervyn) Elliott, Gregory (Sue) Arroyo, Bradley (Laura) Arroyo, Kymberly (William) Ehlebracht, Timothy (Jamie) Arroyo, Erin (Jayson) Parker, and brothers Keith (Beverly) Burand and Denis (Cathy) Burand.
Sharon and Pete enjoyed 29 happy years together, playing golf, traveling, entertaining friends and spending time with family, spoiling their 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three nieces, one nephew and four Borzois.
Sharon was an amazing seamstress. She also had a passion for cooking and especially baking. Given the chance she would have adopted all the dogs in need of a loving home.
Never complaining, she bravely fought lung disease for many years with Pete by her side. After her last hospital stay and difficult prognosis in April, she was determined to continue fighting. She savored every day spent with her loving family, and expressed her feelings of peace, knowing she was loved. She was a gentle soul who will be missed more than words can say.
Funeral services will be at 11 am on Monday, Jan. 17, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services’ La Crosse chapel at 200 West Ave. S. and will be livestreamed on the funeral home’s Facebook page. Pastor Jerry Hatlevig will officiate. Masking is encouraged. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, La Crosse. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 10 am until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Lung Association or to your favorite animal rescue.
