Seneca Softball beats Independence/Gilmanton to reach State

Seneca softball earned a 3-2 walk-off win over Independence/Gilmanton Wednesday in Bangor to clinch the program’s first trip to State since 2000.

The Indees, who were searching for their first-ever State appearance, jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Seneca pitcher Philomena Hall shut their bats down the rest of the way.

Seneca trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Hall tripled and later scored on an RBI hit, and Aubrey Wallin delivered the walk-off RBI with a single to right field.

“My aunts were the ones that took the team [to State in 2000] and ever since I was little I’ve wanted to do this. It’s been one of my biggest goals,” Hall said after the game.

Seneca is making its eighth trip to State, which will be at UW-Green Bay this year.
