Send-off ceremony for Wisconsin National Guard troops before deployment
Troops heading to Horn of Africa
CAMP DOUGLAS, Wis. (WKBT) – Soldiers from our area on their way to Africa, following a send-off ceremony this afternoon at Volk Field.
The four soldiers are deploying to the Horn of Africa on the continent’s east coast.
A fifth will join later, as all are assisting in the war on terrorism.
The solders will acquire technology, supplies, and services for American troops in the region.
The Wisconsin Army National Guard members are based out of Camp Douglas.
The deployment will be a new experience for the guard members.
“We’ve got 30 years of experience, but that’s all state side experience, so getting out there and actually doing a mission in an environment other than the United States is the exciting part of this mission,” said Captain Gary Brown of the 1967th contract team.
Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes joined family and friends during the send-off ceremony.
