Semi tractor trailer totaled in I-94 crash in Jackson County
Crash closed exit 98 westbound ramp
JACKSON COUNTY, Wis. (WKBT) — A semi tractor trailer was totaled in a crash on I-94 westbound near Hixton in Jackson County Sunday night.
The Wisconsin State Patrol said 27-year-old Abdi Mohamed Osman, of Waite Park, Minnesota, left the roadway of I-94 at mile marker 98 at about 7 p.m. on April 19.
The unit struck the guardrail, which caused the semi trailer to hit one of the support structures of the Highway 121 overpass. The damage to the guardrail and support is minor, but the tractor trailer unit is totaled.
The State Patrol said Osman and his 28-year-old passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the crash.
I-94 was cleared for full travel at about 9:30 p.m., but the exit 98 west bound ramp will continue to be closed for several hours for removal of the semi and trailer.
The Wisconsin DNR was contacted because about 30 gallons of diesel fuel spilled. Bridge engineers from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation were also contacted. They will continue to access the damage and structural integrity of the bridge support caused by the crash impact.
The crash is still under investigation. The State Patrol said enforcement action is pending based on the findings of the investigation.
