5 chickens die in coop fire that causes $30K in damage

TOWN OF CHRISTIANA, Wis. (WKBT)-  An estimated 35 gallons of diesel fuel spilled on a road in Vernon County after a semi lost its tank.

It happened Monday on County Road P near Quarry Road in the Town of Christiana.

A passerby first reported a large fuel tank in the road.

When crews first got there, it was determined it was a 90 gallon semi diesel tank.

The driver of the semi was there and told authorities he heard a noise but continued until his truck stalled.

About 35 gallons of diesel had spilled on the road and shoulder before being contained.

Vernon Co. Emergency Management was called to assess the spill. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was consulted by phone.

Westby Fire Department, City of Westby Street Department and the Vernon County Highway Department helped with cleaning up the spill.
