Segways approved for La Crosse city use
Two will go to police department, one to use during maintenance checks
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse police and other city employees could soon have a new way to get around town.
On Monday the Board of Public Works approved three segways for the city.
Two of them will go to the police department while on patrol during big events. The other will go to the city to use during maintenance checks in downtown parking ramps.
City employees say using a segway is much more sustainable during a busy work day.
“To drive the car from city hall here 4,5,6 blocks, take up a parking space whether it’s a street space or a ramp space doesn’t make a lot of sense,” said La Crosse Director of Public Works Dale Hexom.
The city council will make a final decision on the segways in July.
The La Crosse Police Department hopes to use those Segways at big events like Oktoberfest and Riverfest, which gets underway later this week.
