Screaming Eagles prepare for new season

UW-La Crosse marching band brings more than 100 students together

The UW-La Crosse Screaming Eagles Marching Band is getting ready for a new season.

More than 100 band members are spending the week at the university, working on everything from the steps to the music to camaraderie. The group is finishing up their third song Wednesday and will begin their fourth Thursday.

Every day this week band members take to the field to practice for 13 hours.

Band leaders say bringing so many people together takes a tremendous effort.

“All from different backgrounds, we all come from different schools, different backgrounds, we can all come together, learn the same thing and do the same thing together and have a lot of fun doing it, that’s tremendous, that’s just amazing,” said Screaming Eagles Drum Major Gregg Koboski.

Most members are UW-La Crosse students, with a few from Viterbo and Western.

The Screaming Eagles hope to have everything ready for their High School Band day next week, when they’ll be teaching more than 500 high schoolers.
