School referendum coming to Onalaska
School District of Onalaska has 3 plans that need extra funding
ONALASKA, WI (WKBT) — Voters in Onalaska will be asked this Spring if they want to increase taxes to help the school district.
The district has three plans that need some extra funding. Those are a major remodel at Northern Hills Elementary, a technology upgrade, and maintaining an increased operating budget.
The district’s director of finances Larry Dalton estimates it would add up to about $67 for a $100,000 home.
He says results from a recent community survey show a lot of support for the needs in the district. “We need to have more up to date computers, the infrastructure for the computers. The building itself, Northern Hills, if you go through the elementary schools, you see the difference, you see that that school doesn’t have some of the resources that our other schools do. And then operations, yeah, without the operations we’re going to have quite a lot of layoffs,” said Dalton.
The referendum is expected to be in February. The school board will determine the date and formal language for the questions later this month.22946962
