School bus catches fire in Eau Claire County

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Students in Eau Claire County escape from their school bus after it catches fire Tuesday
afternoon.

The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Department says the fire was reported just after 4:00 p.m. on Tower Road in the town
of Wilson.

The school bus was fully engulfed when deputies arrived at the scene. 13 students on the bus, ranging from five to
17-years-old, and the bus driver escaped the bus uninjured.

The driver, who works for the August School District, told deputies he saw smoke coming from the bus and heard a
popping sound. He stopped the bus and told the students to get out through the back of the bus.

A fire started and quickly consumed the entire bus.

Students were driven home by parents, or friends. The Boyd Fire Department helped put the fire out.
