Sara Rose Hougom foundation donates school supplies, stuffed animals to local kids

Kids in our area are more prepared for school thanks to a local organization.

The Sara Rose Hougom foundation brought bags to the Boys and Girls Club of West Salem, each filled with school supplies, a stuffed animal and more! Five police agencies were in attendance and also received bags which they will give to other kids in the community.

“They’re out there. They know the kids that could use a little extra smile, a little positive encouragement in their life. And it’s a way to bond with the community,” said Sara’s mother Sherry Hougom.

Sherry and the Sara Rose Hougom foundation hope these events build trust between kids and law enforcement.

The organization was formed after Sara, a local 20-year-old woman, was killed during a break-in about 7 years ago.
