Salvation Army of La Crosse County marks donut day, collects donations to support new fund
National Donut Day isa holiday to honor the organizations mission of helping U.S. soldiers serving in World War I.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Members of La Crosse’s Salvation Army are celebrating a tasty treat and helping the community.
Friday was ‘National Donut Day’, a holiday to honor the organizations mission of helping U.S. soldiers serving in World War I.
Salvation Army staff celebrated Dunkin’ on La Crosse’s south side, giving out donuts and taking donations.
They’re raising money for the non-profit’s ‘Make a House a Home Fund’ to help families fill their new homes.
“After your first month’s rent and your security deposit, there are things you can’t afford. Maybe it’s a washer, a dryer, a crib. So an anonymous donor reached out and said ‘You know, I really want to help more.’ And so we decided to create a fund. And this fund will be forever,” said Salvation Army of La Crosse County development director Christina Knudsen.
The Salvation Army is still taking donations here.
