Ride across America raises awareness, money for mental illness

A bike ride across the country stops in La Crosse Tuesday, all for a good cause.

It’s called ‘Tom’s Big Ride,’ which raises money for the National Association of Mental Illness. The ride follows the Mississippi River, all the way from Louisiana to northern Minnesota. Tom Mork created the ride after his daughter was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder.

He says he hopes his trip motivates people to do something big to raise awareness for mental illness.

“I hope that we can inspire others to do something like this, because it’s been an experience on so many levels. It’s been a emotionally charged trip as well. As we met these people, their stories have become ours and we’ve become friends with them on Facebook,” said Mork.

The ride has raised more than $100,000.
