Republican Gingrich to campaign in Iowa next week
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will barnstorm across Iowa next week on his first trip to the leadoff presidential caucus state since announcing his candidacy for the 2012 Republican nomination.
The former Georgia congressman announced his candidacy Wednesday, and plans to give his first campaign speech Friday at the Georgia state GOP convention.
Gingrich then plans to launch a 17-city Iowa swing on Monday with a noon speech in Duqubue, followed by news conferences in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines. Gingrich will depart Iowa after a Mason City event Tuesday.
Gingrich returns Thursday for stops in Waterloo, Marshalltown, Ames, Carroll and Atlantic, followed by Council Bluffs, Onawa, Sioux City, Lemars, Storm Lake and Holstein on Friday. Gingrich winds up the trip on Saturday with stops in Orange City and Sheldon.
