Report: Melvin Gordon signs with Broncos

Former Wisconsin and Chargers running back is signing a two-year deal worth $16 million with the Denver Broncos, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport says $13.5 million of that is guaranteed.

The former Badger had a better offer from another team, but playing against the Chargers appealed to Gordon, per Rapoport.

Gordon famously held out from the first four games of the season last year with the Chargers to try and get a contract extension. Gordon turned down the Chargers’ offer of $10 million per year last year. His backup Austin Ekeler stepped in for those first four weeks, and the Chargers gave Ekeler a four-year contract worth $24.5 million earlier this offseason.

Gordon joins a Broncos backfield that includes Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman.
