Report: Bridge repair costs top $1.4 billion in Wisconsin

Wisconsin has an estimated $1.4 billion worth of needed bridge repair costs, according to a new report.

The findings from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association show about 7% of all bridges in the state are structurally deficient. That means one of the key elements is in poor or worse condition.

The report calls for the replacement of about 1,900 bridges. Most of the bridges in need of repair are on rural, local roads.

In Minnesota, 668 bridges in the state are classified as structurally deficient, but that has gone down since 2014, when there were 802 bridges with the classification.

The total estimated cost to fix the bridges in need of repairs in Minnesota is estimated to be about $520 million.

More information on the study can be found on the organization’s website.
