Report: Big Ten to approve 8-game fall football schedule starting as early as Oct. 16

Sources told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Tuesday that the Big Ten Conference has approved an eight-game fall football season that could start as early as Oct. 16-17.

The report says each team is to play eight games in a nine-week window, with the conference title game set for Dec. 19, the day before the College Football Playoff reveals its final rankings.

KETV in Omaha caught University of Nebraska president Ted Carter on a hot mic earlier Tuesday saying the conference was making an announcement on fall football later this evening.

The news come a little over a month after the Big Ten’s Council of Presidents and Chancellors voted 11-3 to cancel fall sports due to the coronavirus.

Nine votes from that council are needed to officially reverse that decision.
