Rep. Ron Kind, former Sen. Jeff Flake make bipartisan case for Joe Biden presidency

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)– Wisconsin Representative Ron Kind and former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake say Joe Biden is the best choice for president. During a press conference ahead of President Trump’s visit to West Salem Tuesday, the current and former congressmen laid out their case for the Democratic presidential nominee.

Flake said he has never voted for a Democrat and voted for a third-party candidate last time instead of then-candidate Donald Trump.

His story of casting a ballot this time for the other party might resonate with Wisconsinites. There are many pivot counties in western Wisconsin that went for Barack Obama twice before going to Donald Trump in 2016.

But after four years of a Trump presidency, Kind and Flake argue people are tired of chaos, insults and instability.

“That doesn’t match Wisconsinites that well. Economically, his tit-for-tat trade war has been devastating to our family farmers and manufacturers here in the Upper Midwest. They feel it is time for a change in direction on that front,” said Kind, who is seeking re-election.

Flake agreed with this assessment and said people are tired of Trump’s schtick. He argues Americans are remembering that confidence matters, which means something in government– especially when it comes to facing the coronavirus.

“I can tell you in Arizona among seniors who are very concerned and have felt and seen friends pass away and be very sick because of this. And to have the president just dismiss it as nothing more than the flu or nothing that we ought to be concerned about just does not match with their experience,” said Flake.

Flake also said he is supporting Ron Kind as he seeks re-election, as they have worked on a number of issues together in the past. Kind is facing Republican candidate Derrick Van Orden.
