ReNEW wraps up fourth year of neighborhood revitalization

More than 160 volunteers complete 55 projects on south side

A local organization is wrapping up another year of neighborhood revitalization efforts.

“ReNEW La Crosse Neighborhoods” held their last of five volunteer events this year last Saturday. The group helps fix up homes in the Powell-Poage-Hamilton and Washburn neighborhoods in La Crosse, doing everything from yard work, home repairs and painting.

They had a team of 165 volunteers this year who worked on a total of 55 projects at 28 different homes over the course of a month.

Executive director Amanda Acklin says she’s happy with this year’s results.

“We were very fortunate, I think, to get the amount of volunteers that we had come out,” said Acklin. “We had volunteers come out during the Saturdays and we did get a lot of it done.”

ReNEW hopes to take on projects in other neighborhoods in the future, including the city’s north side.
