Reid Arthur Johnson passed away at Saint Annes Extended Healthcare March 13, 2020, at the age of 82.

He was born September 26, 1937, to Arthur Joel and Dorothy Jane (Scheidigger) Johnson.

Reid graduated 1955 from Houston High school. He attended the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, MN and did his student teaching at Waconia Public School. He received his 4 year Bachelor of Science Degree on June, 13, 1959, from the University of Minnesota.

On October 1, 1960, he married Arlas Stueve at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Winona, MN. They initially lived in Money Creek on the family farm and purchased their farm in Stockton Valley in 1962.

Reid was a Money Creek School Board officer.

They have 3 children, Rachel (James) Sternisha, Ellsworth, WI, Arlette (Corey) Gensmer, Minnesota City, MN, and Jenelle (Chad) Larson, Minnesota City, MN. They have five grandchildren, Jessi (Sean) Roadhouse, Chelsi (Michael) Kahl, David (Mariah) Sternisha, Nikki Gensmer, and Chase Gensmer. They also have five great-grandchildren: Leah & Hannah Sternisha; Henrik & Olle Roadhouse; and Hutch Kahl.

In April 1967 the family moved to Minnesota City. Reid then also farmed with his Dad and brother Ray.

Reid was very active in the Brown Swiss Cattle Association and was also its Canton 1st officer. He and his brother Ray raised award winning cattle that went overseas and received national honors. They sold their registered Brown Swiss Cattle in 1998.

Reid loved to play horse shoe and games of 500 with family and friends. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Winona. He was also a member of Winona Country Farm Bureau and the director of DHIA and a five year 4-H leader. In 2007, Reid Johnson was one of 5 people chosen to the Winona County Fair Hall of Fame where he was recognized for his life time contribution to agriculture.

He was preceded in death by his parents Art & Dorothy Johnson, and brother Ray.

He is survived by his wife, daughters, and sister Judy (Ralph) Osborne, Sparta, WI, and sister-in-law, Ila Johnson, Minnesota City, MN.

Services will be 11 a.m., Monday, March 16, 2020, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Winona, MN with Reverend Matthew Schoell officiating. He will be buried at Oakland Cemetery, Minnesota City, MN. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
