Recount: Fort Dodge council seat won by 1 vote

FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — A recount has confirmed that a Fort Dodge City Council seat has been decided by just one vote.

The Messenger reports that a recount panel confirmed the results on Wednesday.

The panel poured over ballots for about 2 1/2 hours at the Webster County Courthouse Wednesday before announcing that Kim Alstott had defeated Kelly Hindman 563 votes to 562 in the November 8th election.

The recount panel was comprised of one person chosen by each candidate. Those two people then selected the panel’s third member.

Alstott will take office in January and serve a two-year term in the 4th Ward on the city’s north side.
